When I woke up around 9:30, my blood sugar was 188. It is now 3:20 in the afternoon, and all I've eaten today is one rice cake...and it's still 179. I am so beyond frustrated with all of this diabetic nonsense. I started the new med yesterday and it made me have to pee all the time, which stopped me from getting a good night's sleep. We'll see how long I can ride that one out, and if it even does anything.

In less depressing news, Z and I just got back from doing the shopping for Thanksgiving. We were going to pick up a pie for desert, but I've decided to just make baked apples instead. That way it's less sugar for me, and less complaining from Y.

Super nice guy working in the meat department stopped to give us instructions for the turkey, since it's too late to thaw it in the fridge. And Y says people here are unfriendly. Psh.

Apparently I can't sell stickers at Arisia, so that's one less thing for me to stress out about making.

What's thee guy's turkey instructions?

IME I think Bostonians are quite often friendly, but I'm from NYC.

I would suggest cold water instead of warm (water's thermal capacity is so large that as long as it's not frozen it won't make that much difference to the speed of thawing, but cold water is a bit safer from the food safety perspective) but I mostly agree with him. If you have a bucket or a cooler you can put it there too. Just make sure it stays cold (under 40F, ideally).

He was probably thinking about speed; warm would be a little faster but I think the food safety tradeoff isn't worth it.

Remember to rinse the turkey well inside when you do pull it out of its bath, to help ensure there's no lingering ice or frozen pockets. (This can be awkward. I'm glad there's two of you.)

I could talk about food forever, as you probably guessed. :D

Oh my goodness, I am at your disposal for all food related questions. If I don't know I'll consult an expert.

[Mom hat on]

Type II diabetes responds a lot better to eating protein and low-glycemic vegetables than to eating nothing at all. Please eat.

Wait, what? I have DEFINITELY bought stickers there before... but I guess that was in the art alley instead of at tables? But that's still weird!
